Tag You’re IT blog hop

Standard

I’ve been tagged in the Tag You’re IT blog hop. I in turn tag three other authors and invite them to answer the same questions for their Monday blogs.  They then tag 3 more authors, and so on and so forth till it’s one great big giant Tag-Along! Sound good? Here goes!

1. What are you working on right now?
My NaNoWriMo project.
2. How does it differ from other works in its genre?
It has NO humans in it. The main characters (revealed on tomorrow’s blog) are elves.  My world is populated with dwarves, goblins, and trolls as well. I also did ‘a lot’ of planning – for me. Every Monday and Wednesday for the month, I have developed a character or a place.
3. Why do you write what you do?
I love to totally create something. In fantasy I’m introducing the reader to a world he/she has never been to before. I need to ‘show’ them the types of plants, flowers, and trees that make up the landscape. What creatures inhibit this world? Is there magic? What is the religion system? All these things are mine to create.
4. How does your writing process work?

I’m a pantser but I’m very visual so I usually collect pictures of things I want to draw off while I create. Now while I don’t do any real planning, I do take TONS of notes while I’m writing so I have several different note taking systems I use depending on the type of WIP I’m working on.

*REMINDER THIS IS A FEATURE NOT A REVIEW*

Since it is October, I will be featuring horror books ~ remember all things scary 😀

This week’s feature is Hawthorn Inn by Heidi Willard.

Jack Erikson doesn’t have great expectations when his mother moves them to an old decrepit inn in a town just as musty, but he’s unprepared for the oddities that start springing out of the rotten woodwork. New friends introduce him to legends and rumors that have swirled around the inn since time-immemorial, and he finds plenty of proof to believe them as strange noises and twisted shadows stalk the halls.

Worst of all, his estranged grandfather has invited himself to join them at the inn. Creepy doesn’t begin to describe that black-cloaked gentleman with the pale skin and weird, ever-constant glasses. Old secrets, mysterious sealed-up rooms and creeping shadows abound as Jack tries to manage his new life at Hawthorn Inn.

Hawthorn Inn is the first in a five novel horror/supernatural thriller series featuring Jack Erikson, a normal teenager with not-so-normal secrets.

I have read the first three books in this series and have enjoyed them all.  I did struggle with the point of view (POV) when I started Hawthorn. I’m not sure if it was due to the fact I’m a writer or that it’s omnipresence. BUT the compiling characters and great story line kept me readying.

Currently, the first book is free for the kindle ~

Ch-ch-Changes blog hop

Welcome to the Ch ch changes young adult blog hop…
blog hop
In my Night of the Gryphon series the five main characters are young adults who find themselves embarking on a quest for the Specter of Hope in order to save the world… I’m sure we can all relate :p While they all go through ch-ch-changes as truths they held dear are challenged and sometimes shattered the character that grows the most is Sancha.

Sancha is the son of the war-pack trainer for Taraly’s kingdom. He lives in an isolated valley with his father. He is what is known as an animal talker. Sancha thinks he’ll spend his life in the valley training the King’s warpack and he’s okay with that. But when his father is killed and the warpack destroyed by the evil creatures the sorceress Ovezara has released, he leaves his valley to seek revenge. Only what starts off as revenge changes into something else.

And one of the ch-ch-changes he has to deal with is love…

Here’s an excerpt from Warrior Queen book 2 in the Night of the Gryphon.

Sancha watched Rysa. Feeling conflicted in what he saw. Many things about her resembled a human woman yet it was all very different. Her long silver hair was like moon beams, her yellow eyes seemed to bore into your soul.
“She would not make you a good mate,” the wolfhound snarled.

“Humans look for more than mates. We also seek friendship.”

The wolfhound shook his head in annoyance. “You lie. You have never compared my coat to that of the light of the moon.”

Sancha twirled his staff. “I knew from her horns she was not for me.” He gaze shifted to Jalie and he struggled not to cover the ground separating them. After the attack of the banshees he’d walked several feet away but already he missed her closeness. To stand next to her and let her scent of sweet vanilla wrap around him. The small fragments of his heart she’d found after his father’s death and revived were once again hard dark stones.

“Again you lie to yourself,” the wolfhound spoke to him. “She holds the power to once again make you whole. I told you when we first met her to walk away. She would be harmful to the pack but you ignored me.”

Sancha smiled remembering the day he’d met Jalie. He was leaving the small valley of his childhood, where his family had lived for hundreds of years training the war pack. His soul was barren after finding his dad’s mutilated body and having endured months of relentless nights of horrors. She’d been a ray of sunshine standing the path. It was only though her love he’d survived. “There is no pack.” He walked over to Jalie and placed a hand on her tiny shoulder. She’d been wrong to lie but he knew not to forgive her was beyond his power.

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll be giving away 2 different bookloops to 3 randomly selected people that leave me comments.
